Choose the jobs that benefit from rotation
Start with a few recurring jobs people would like to share, such as bathroom cleaning, vacuuming shared spaces and the weekly kitchen reset. Some jobs may work better with a consistent owner.
Match effort before assigning turns
A five-minute tidy and a thorough bathroom clean are different commitments. Estimate effort and group smaller jobs where helpful. Ask everyone whether the rotation feels manageable.
Use a simple rota
For three housemates, try the sample below. Each person moves to the next job the following week. Keep a shared record of the current turn so it does not depend on memory.
| Week | Bathroom | Kitchen reset | Vacuuming |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Emma | Oliver | Sophie |
| 2 | Sophie | Emma | Oliver |
| 3 | Oliver | Sophie | Emma |
Agree how time away works
Decide what happens when someone cannot take a turn. Ask for cover, agree a swap or reschedule the job. Make the arrangement visible so it does not quietly fall to the same person.
Bring the rota into HomeShine
Use manually assigned recurring chores now. Planned Plus features add automatic rotation and Holiday mode: recurring rotating chores can pass to an available member, with “Needs cover” shown when nobody is available.
