Start with the kitchen, bathroom and living areas. List the jobs that affect everyone, then separate them from personal responsibilities. Decide together how often each shared job needs doing.
Give each job a clear owner
Avoid leaving everything to “someone”. Assign a person and a due date, and use a checklist for jobs that have several steps. Agree how housemates should ask for cover when plans change.
Keep one shopping list
Use a shared list for household essentials such as washing-up liquid, toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Agree separately how you will share costs; HomeShine is a planning tool, not a bill-splitting service.
Make the household visible
