Start with the whole job
Write down recurring responsibilities, including the work of noticing, planning and restocking. “Do the laundry” can include sorting, washing, drying, folding and putting away—not just starting the machine.
Agree what done looks like
Choose a realistic standard together. A kitchen reset might mean clear worktops, dishes put away and a wiped sink. A short checklist makes expectations easier to share without repeated reminders.
Share responsibility, then review it
Assign each job to one person or agree how turns will work. Equal numbers of jobs do not always mean equal effort: compare time, frequency and the planning involved. Revisit the arrangement when work or health changes.
